Beekeeping
Bees can be kept at allotment sites, on plots or possibly in other areas. For more information, email the Allotments team at allotments@crawley.gov.uk.
Sheds
With written permission from the council, you can erect a shed, no bigger than 6ftx4ft, on your plot.
Site security
All sites have gates that are locked with a combination padlock. You are given a combination on allocation of a plot.
Water supply
All allotment sites have standpipes where you can fill buckets and watering cans. Hosepipes are not allowed.
The supply is turned off from October to April each year to prevent frost damage to pipes and taps.
Site inspections
Regular inspections are carried out at each allotment site to ensure plots are being cultivated properly.
We expect to see:
- 25 per cent of the plot cultivated in the first year
- 50 per cent in the second year
- 75 per cent in the third year
If plots are not worked in line with this we will give you four weeks to improve the plot. Failure to improve will result in loss of the plot.
