ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Borough Council is asking for your views on how you would like ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ to be managed in the future, notably whether ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Town Council should be created to represent the residents of ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾.

The government has recently proposed that local government is reorganised, which would mean that ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Borough Council would cease to exist. ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Borough Council will be replaced by a new unitary council in 2028 that will operate across a much wider area. ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ will therefore no longer have its own voice in its current footprint or the same ability to shape future services or facilities.

To retain a dedicated voice for ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ as well as some local decisions on services and facilities, a new town council could be established. The creation of ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Town Council would enable decisions to be made on some local matters. It could take over the ownership and running of certain services and facilities in ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ such as allotments, play areas, live entertainment and events, local grants, cemeteries, community centres and maybe even larger facilities such as parks, neighbourhood parades, K2 ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ and The Hawth.

The creation of a new town council is one way to ensure that services and community facilities are managed from within ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ and, more importantly, would give residents in the borough more say in how some facilities are run.

ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ has a wonderful history and culture, and a dedicated town council would ensure that the borough retains its voice once it becomes part of a wider unitary council.

Whether you live or work in ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ or have any other interest in the town, please take the time to tell us what you think. Your opinion is important and will shape proposals for the future of ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾.

Councillor Michael Jones

Leader of ºÚÁÏÍøÕ¾ Borough Council

The town council consultation is open until 1 December. This consultation is a Community Governance Review (CGR). You can find out more about how CGR works on our dedicated webpage.
